Boeing built 1,574 Boeing 747s over the programme’s 54-year production run. The final aircraft, a 747-8 Freighter for Atlas Air, was delivered on 31 January 2023.

The 747-400 was the most-produced generation, accounting for about 44% of all 747s. The 747-8 closed the programme with 155 aircraft, more than two-thirds of them freighters.

What the categories mean

The 747-100 group combines the standard -100, the strengthened -100B, Japanese short-range SR aircraft and the shortened 747SP. Later rows group each generation’s passenger, freighter, combi and special-range production variants.

These are aircraft completed, not orders, conversions or aircraft still operating. Passenger-to-freighter conversions therefore do not add to the production total. Unbuilt studies such as the 747-500X and 747 trijet are excluded.

Method and limitations

The generation totals are reconciled to Boeing’s final programme statement of 1,574 aircraft. Boeing’s current programme and airport-planning pages are used to confirm the official model groupings. Percentages are calculated from the unrounded aircraft counts and rounded to one decimal place, so displayed percentages may not sum perfectly due to rounding.
