Boeing 747 Combi Layout
Layout diagram of the Boeing 747 Combi main deck.
A cabin diagram of the 747 Combi, showing the split main deck: passengers forward, freight aft behind a movable partition, loaded through a side cargo door.
The Combi let an airline serve routes where neither passengers nor freight alone justified a 747. It also created a safety debate — carrying cargo on the same deck as passengers, without a full firewall, was scrutinised heavily after the 1987 South African Airways Flight 295 accident. More on the 747-400M Combi.

This configuration allows 7 pallets to be loaded on the main deck
